Manchester United are stepping up their attempts to sign Wesley Sneijder, as Inter look to Josip Ilicic as a potential replacement.

This is not the first time that Sir Alex Ferguson has shown a strong interest in Sneijder, who was also a target over the last several years.

The Dutch midfielder has been told he will not play again for Inter until he signs a new contract that would lower his €6m per season wages.

It is reported that Sneijder has no intention of even negotiating with the club, so a January move seems inevitable with Manchester City, PSG and Anzhi also ready to make offers.

According to Mediaset, the Nerazzurri have targeted 24-year-old Palermo creative midfielder Ilicic as a potential replacement for Sneijder.

Former Inter director Gabriele Oriali believes the club has “not dealt with the situation well, as it would’ve been better to keep it out of the public eye.”
