Serie A veteran Alberto Malesani has confirmed that he would be interested in the Italy job.

Malesani won a UEFA Cup, Coppa Italia and Supercoppa with a Parma side that boasted the likes of Gianluigi Buffon, Fabio Cannavaro and Hernan Crespo between 1998 and 2001, although he has been out of work since leaving Sassuolo three years ago.

“I like catching up with the times on how to see and understand football,” the 63-year-old told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I like catching up with the times on how to see and understand football,” the 63-year-old told Tuttomercatoweb.

“Having said that, I like approaching football with my gut instinct, and it’s something I’ll keep doing. I’d like to coach a national team, but it’s difficult for many reasons.

“Sometimes a national team can also be political. We need to know everything that goes on around it.

“I miss the pitch, but I’ve made a lot of mistakes over choosing certain teams and been a bit limited by results.

“We also look more towards the present than the past in football.”
