Alberto Malesani has complained that the jeers of Bologna fans are “unfair,” while Gigi De Canio admits Lecce deserved their defeat.

All the action at the Stadio Dall'Ara was compressed into 60 seconds, when Marco Di Vaio and then Henry Gimenez were on target for a 2-0 victory.

“The jeers are unfair,” moaned Bologna boss Malesani. “I don't know what the fans expect from these lads, but we have a long-term project and must all understand that you cannot become a winning team in 60 days.

“Leave us in peace, we know full well that we have to avoid relegation. Today we deserved the victory and I'm glad to hear De Canio said so too. He is a gentleman and we could do with more people like him in football.”

De Canio confessed his side had not done enough to earn the points in this relegation dogfight.

“Bologna were better on the day. They sought the victory with greater intensity and made the most of our mistakes,” said the Lecce Coach.

“We did not have the right mentality today. We must always battle, this is what our season involves. I have few players with much Serie A experience, so we must all learn the right attitude to take.”
