The coronavirus pandemic put a halt to sport all over Europe from mid-March, but Italy was the first European country to be badly hit and seems to be moving towards Phase 2 from May 4.

“I trust that there will be an opening from May 4, with all the indications agreed with Minister for Sport Vincenzo Spadafora and the scientific advisory committee,” Malagò told Chi magazine.

“There are 387 disciplines that have been shut down. The Government will let us know, but we are prepared for everything. Obviously, individual sports like golf are very different to team ones, there are some outdoors and others indoors. It all needs to be codified.

“Running on an athletics track by yourself or 30 metres from anyone else has no danger attached. If there are no other developments, that sort of thing can resume from May 4.

“We are at an advanced stage when it comes to drawing up all the details of how each sport can resume training.”
