Maksimovic was bought from Torino at the orders of Maurizio Sarri in the summer of 2016 for €25m, but barely featured.
He was loaned out to Spartak Moscow to get playing time in January.
The 26-year-old Serbia international made only 19 appearances in a Napoli jersey, scoring one goal.
Notably, three of those games were since Ancelotti took over from Sarri this season.
It is Maksimovic’s fourth Champions League appearance after starting the 4-2 win over Benfica in September 2016, 1-1 draw away to Besiktas in November 2016 and 3-1 home victory over Feyenoord in September 2017.
