Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto is ‘angry with myself’ for mistakes in the Europa League play-off elimination by FC Porto. ‘We deserved much more.’

Just like the first leg, the Aquile had taken the lead only to be turned around, although the 2-2 result on the night was not enough.

They were eliminated 4-3 on aggregate, with Luis Alberto hitting the woodwork in the final stages.

“I think we deserved much more from both games, but especially this evening,” Luis Alberto told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s really disappointing, because we wasted so many scoring opportunities and really wanted to continue in the competition.

“When we are all fit and healthy, we can compete against any team, but today I am really angry above all with myself, because I made too many mistakes. The fans deserved better.”

Maurizio Sarri had complained that playing in the Europa League on a Thursday meant they did not have any time to work on tactics in training.

“Obviously, now we have to fight for fourth place in Serie A. We have a very important game coming up and have to focus on that,” continued Luis Alberto.

“There’s a long way to go in the league and we’ve got to do well. We’ve been embarrassed a few times, but this team fights.”
