Shakhtar Donetsk Coach Mircea Lucescu believes that Inter have paid for their lengthy injury list this season.

The Romanian tactician, who was in charge of the Nerazzurri for the 1998-99 season, has insisted that the team are still recovering after the departure of Jose Mourinho.

“Inter have been highly inconsistent this season,” he told Palermo24.net. “They have paid a heavy price for the injuries to important players.

“The club has remained in my heart. I am very fond of the team, so I have great sympathy for the disappointments of this season.

“The Nerazzurri won it all under Mourinho, but the Portuguese Coach squeezed every last drop out of each player.

“He got the most out of the group. Mou's farewell closed a cycle.”

The 67-year-old was also asked to comment on Palermo's fight for Serie A survival.

“I follow Serie A constantly and I know that they are experiencing a difficult time.

“They have had tough time, but recently they've been able to get important results.

“I am convinced that they can stay up.

“The symbol of Sicily cannot afford to go down to Serie B.”
