Napoli winger Hirving Lozano was stretchered off with a suspected facial fracture after a nasty clash of heads with Lazio defender Adam Marusic.

It was an entirely accidental, but very violent, collision as they both went to head a cross during the Serie A match at the Stadio Olimpico.

Marusic had the bleeding patched up by medical staff, but Lozano had to be stretchered off.

The Mexico international’s cheekbone was visibly swollen as he was taken away on the motorised cart and there are already fears of a fracture.

It is an unfortunately familiar situation for Napoli, who lost Victor Osimhen for several months after sustaining multiple facial fractures during a clash of heads with an Inter defender.

As for Lozano, he is no stranger to facial injuries either, as he was hospitalised after suffering a deep cut just next to his eye while playing international football for Mexico against Trinidad and Tobago at the Gold Cup.

It required surgery and several days in hospital before he was released in July 2021.
