Hirving Lozano says Napoli were his ‘first choice’, he has joined to ‘make history’ and that his record fee is a ‘stimulus’ to succeed at the San Paolo.

Lozano was officially unveiled as a Napoli player on Tuesday after he completed a €40m transfer from PSV, which made him the most expensive purchase in the club’s history.

“I’m delighted to be here and to have been Ancelotti’s first choice,” began the forward.

“It’s my big chance and I come with great desire to do my bit. Negotiations were long but, as soon as they showed an interest, Napoli were my first choice. Luckily, they ended in the best possible way.

“I’ve watched so many Serie A matches. It’s always been a League full of champions and they’ve passed through here too.

“We have an excellent team. I’d followed Napoli before, now I hope to help them improve and do great things.

“I’ve found a good team who are working to improve every day. This club have a glorious past and I’m here to do the best I can and make history.

“I have a lot to learn and this experience will let me grow. I talked to Ancelotti about private things, family business. I had a very peaceful meeting with him.

“The Italian game is different to the Dutch one. I think it’s better, faster, quicker and tougher. I’ll have to understand Ancelotti’s instructions at every training session, but that’s what I’m here for.”

The Mexican was then asked if he had Hugo Sanchez, arguably his country’s greatest-ever European export, in his sights.

“He was a very goodplayer, an idol for Mexicans. I hope I can get close to him, but I can only do that with hard work.

“We know how strong Juve are, but we have to go there to win. Let’s see how we get on game by game.

“We have a great team, but we’ll have to sweat every time we go out on the field. I’ll put my pace and technique at the team’s disposal.

“I’ll respect the Coach’s decisions with regards to my position on the pitch. I like to play anywhere in attack and I showed it in the Netherlands.

“I’ve always gone step by step, in my life and in my career. It’ll remain like that in Naples. It’s great to be here to share this experience with my family.

“Being the most expensive player in Napoli’s history is a stimulus for me. I’m glad the club have invested such a fee in me.

“Everything was pretty straightforward with the President. He told me about the team and Coach. All of this convinced me.

“Ancelotti watched me at the World Cup in Russia. I think I convinced him with my performances and I’m glad I did.”
