“We expected an intense and aggressive game, which proved to be the case,” said Löw in his Press conference.

“We did well in defence against Mario Balotelli and Daniel Osvaldo, but it was also a positive performance in attack.

“We dominated the midfield and had many scoring opportunities, even hitting the upright at the last second. We hit the woodwork three times, which I think has to be a record for a friendly. It’s a shame.”

Germany have not beaten Italy since 1995 and never managed to get the better of them in competitive games.
