President Claudio Lotito has claimed Lazio's players would be safe to train at Formello, with all the necessary ‘comfort and means of sanitation’ in place.

Last month the AIC released a statement warning they would take strong actions if clubs tried to call players into training sessions amid complaints Lotito was trying to force players to keep going during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Biancocelesti patron has since been fighting to resume both play and training, insisting Lazio were the first to stop their sessions due to the coronavirus outbreak in Italy.

He underlined the surveillance of their athletes will provide a safe environment to resume training without ‘undermining the citizens’ health’.

“Nobody wants to undermine the citizens’ health. All activities, with the authorisation of the prefects, can perform their duties as long as all means of protection and safety are guaranteed,” Lotito told Lazio Style Channel. “The football players have a different physical condition than the average person and is subjected to medical checks 24/7, so they could train without endangering their own health and the health of others.

“Out of respect for the common guidelines, we stopped the sessions before any other clubs, training in our case is not a playful but professional act, now the conditions will improve.

“The sports centre of Formello is equipped with all the comfort and means of sanitation, moreover, the structure is among the largest in Italy.

“We had masks, gloves and glasses for over a month because they are already in use for ordinary activities.

“We decided to put the players in the best conditions possible, it’s fundamental that a sense of belonging is born in each of them. Lazio are a large family that cares about the quality of life of every player and their families.

“The merit must be gained through daily work, the spirit of sacrifice and the desire to provide our contribution to the group. This is a team game; the individual must increase the value of the collective.”
