President Claudio Lotito admits he’s had “problems” at Lazio, but will still be involved with Salernitana.

This summer has seen protests against the patron from Biancocelesti fans, in addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s dramatic resignation and the continuing problems with Keita Balde Diao.

“I’ve had several problems in Rome with Lazio,” Lotito admitted to Le Cronache.

“But not even this year will my presence be missing from Salernitana. Although I haven’t been there physically, I’ve always participated in every decision.

“Unfortunately I won’t be there for the game with Hellas [Verona] because I’ll be in Italy with the national team.”

Lotito’s family is from the Amatrice area, where over 240 people have been killed by a severe earthquake.

“It’s a mortal wound in my heart,” Lotito said.

“Despite originally being from Rome, my family is from a suburb of Amatrice, San Lorenzo. In that area there are 69 villages, all with a rich history.

“Amatrice was under the rule of the Borboni and the Papal State and is rich in monuments, churches and works of art, almost all of which have sadly been destroyed or damaged.

“What is even more dramatic though is the price paid in human life, which no-one can remedy.

“I cherish the memories of my childhood there, I remember I used to sit on the stone lions outside my home church. Now they tell me it has been destroyed. It’s awful.

“We all have to do something to help these people so that the wound that has been opened doesn’t become mortal.”
