“I think everyone has a role to play and should work together,” Pioli said at the club’s Christmas dinner, as reported by LaLazioSiamoNoi.
“It’s right that as President I also take my responsibilities, but we need everyone to contribute. The team needs the fans, I hate to see discord between the club and the supporters.
“They think they’re criticising me, but I always wear a raincoat so it just washes off me. Only with unity of purpose can we get out of this current situation.
“There’s also a very strong media campaign which is distorting things. Today Lazio are strong and competitive, but we need results.
“Pinning all the blame on the players is wrong, criticism can be useful, but it should be constructive. We need the affection of the people who love these colours.
“When the various components work with unity, we get results. If we need to make certain adjustments, we’re ready to act.
“But certain alarmism doesn’t help the team, who need everyone behind them to fight. The injuries have had a part to play too, we can’t predict these kind of things, like [Stefan] De Vrij’s injury.
“There are situations which the team are not to blame for.
“Whoever says we didn’t have a good transfer campaign is wrong, in the summer we decided to keep all our best players, and we’ve brought in other valuable players who are proving their worth.”
