It has been a chaotic week for the Sardinians, as President Cellino agreed a deal to buy 75 per cent of Leeds United and said he’d sold Cagliari to investors who are yet to be named. Reports suggest they are either based in Qatar or America.

“I won’t comment on the club issues and it doesn’t get discussed in our locker room either,” assured Coach Lopez.

“We have a compact and wonderful group, which also helps the new players to settle in quickly. I liked Matias Vecino against Fiorentina and also Cabrera, so one of them will be called to replace Daniele Dessena on the right.”

Dessena is suspended, while Mauricio Pinilla is a late addition to the injury list. Victor Ibarbo will be out for several weeks after emergency surgery for appendicitis.

“We must give a sense of consistency to the victory over Fiorentina and to do that we must go to Genoa with the right determination.

“We need to be concentrated and try to take the initiative, because if you clam up against a strong side then you’re doomed.

“Sampdoria will be very different to the side we faced earlier this season, as Sinisa Mihajlovic has made them aggressive and efficient. They play good football and recent results confirm they’re in good shape.”
