The Canarini are forced to play the first two home games of the season on neutral turf and received a heavy fine as punishment for their unsporting behaviour in the play-off victory over Palermo.

Many thought that didn’t go far enough and the Sicilians took legal action to have the result overturned, so the pressure is on Frosinone before they even step on to the field tomorrow.

“We are preparing for this debut with great enthusiasm,” assured Coach Longo in his Press conference.

“Playing in Serie A is a big opportunity and a real privilege. We earned this chance on the field and want to make the most of it.

“Undoubtedly, there is curiosity to see how we do in a prestigious league like Serie A, especially this season, and know the difficulties we are going towards, but want to prove we belong here.”

The shock Coppa Italia elimination at the hands of Sudtirol prompted a late spending spree on the transfer market, although Joel Campbell and Joaquin Ardaiz aren’t available yet due to international transfer issues.

They also lost hitman Daniel Ciofani to an anterior cruciate ligament injury, meaning he’ll be out for several months.

“We have to thank the club for their enormous efforts to provide a competitive squad. Logically, with so many changes, it’s going to take a little time to gel as a team.

“I hope we’ll see the ‘real’ Frosinone as soon as possible, probably after the break for international duty, so in Week 3. In the meantime, we must try not to give points away needlessly, because they could be decisive at the end of the season.

“It’s bad luck being up against Atalanta in the opener, as they have already had four competitive games in the Europa League.”

Frosinone squad for Atalanta: Sportiello, Bardi, Iacobucci; Capuano, Ariaudo, Salamon, Krajnc, Molinaro, Brighenti, Goldaniga, Beghetto, Ghiglione, Zampano; Maiello, Crisetig, Hallfredsson, Soddimo, Cassata, Chibsah, Besea; Matarese, Pinamonti, Ciano, Perica
