Moreno Longo hopes this is a ‘new dawn’ for Simone Verdi after he helped Torino beat Brescia 3-1 last night.

Toro ended a run of three straight defeats but had to come back from behind after Brescia took an early lead.

“At the end of the game, I gathered the players in the middle of the park,” Longo told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s because I care. We all knew how important this game was. Games like these are traps, we had everything to lose and Brescia had nothing to lose.

“We went a goal down but then recovered with character. I’ve never been afraid, even at a goal down.

“The 1-0 wasn’t reflective of the match. The team had approached the game well.”

Verdi has struggled to hit the heights expected of him since his club-record €20m move from Napoli last summer.

However, the attacker registered an assist, prompting praise from his coach.

“I’m happy for Verdi, this must be a new dawn for him. We’re aware that a step has been taken today, one that needed to be taken, but the road to survival is still long.

“There are still big games to be won, now we’re waiting for Inter. We still haven’t beaten a big team.”
