Frosinone Coach Moreno Longo admits having “nothing to lose” in the Serie B promotion play-off against Palermo is a bonus.

Camillo Ciano’s stunner from 30 metres into the far top corner had given them the lead in Sicily after just five minutes, but that was effectively their only effort on goal and Palermo fought back to win 2-1.

Because Frosinone finished higher up the Serie B table during the regular season, they’ll go through if they win with any result in the second leg.

“We all know Ciano has these ballistic abilities that you rarely find and we often see it in training too,” Longo told Sky Sport Italia.

“Scoring the goal so early gave us the idea we could control the game, but that was not the case. I want to compliment my team for giving their all in a fiery atmosphere against a strong Palermo side, who other than the goals did very little.

“We’re there, we are still in the running. We have nothing to lose and for a team that has struggled to deal with certain situations over the season, that can only be a positive for us.”

Frosinone were on the verge of automatic promotion along with Empoli, but fumbled a lead to draw 2-2 with Foggia in the final minutes and were overtaken by Parma.

The Canarini also risked throwing it all away in the semi-final against Cittadella.
