The Nazionale opened their World Cup qualifying campaign with a 2-0 win over Northern Ireland, but were criticised for taking their foot off the gas after the break.

“We have to do better than in the second half, because the first half was a good performance, but we want to improve on the second and hopefully even the first,” Lombardo told RAI Sport.

“We must not lack balance, but also not lack those attacking principles that are the basis for our approach.”

Belotti steps in for Ciro Immobile and his form has been wobbly since recovering from the COVID-19 outbreak at Torino last month.

“Gallo is doing fine, he will start the game. Having just two centre-forwards at the moment, it’s fundamental that he give us what Ciro did in the first match.

“We have the utmost faith in him and the whole team.”
