The creative midfielder and free kick specialist put pen to paper on an extension this week holding him to the Elefantini until 2016.

“I am very happy and this is a show of great faith from all concerned,” Lodi told the official club website.

“I appreciate the economic effort the club made for this contract and want to share my satisfaction with everyone.

“I love this jersey, the fans and the city, so hope to do better every day until the end of the contract.”

The negotiations dragged on for some time and it was unclear whether Lodi would remain in Sicily.

“There was never any doubt on my desire to stay at Catania. With this deal we create the right situation for me to stay here for life, which is a very important step for me. Ending my playing days at Catania would be wonderful.”
