Alessandro Matri’s move to Napoli could be hijacked by Liverpool now that Juventus have set his €12m price-tag.

Over the last couple of days it has been widely reported in the Italian media that Juve accepted a €12m offer from Napoli.

Matri has taken some time to consider the transfer, but the Daily Mail suggests Liverpool are ready to intercept the negotiations at the last minute.

The Reds would be prepared to match that fee, which is roughly £10.5m.

It all comes down to Matri’s decision, as he wants more playing time than he received at Juventus.

Napoli can promise the Champions League, but he would be an understudy to Gonzalo Higuain.

The former Cagliari hitman turns 29 next week and scored 10 goals in 35 games for Juve last season.
