Fabio Liverani admits this is nowhere near the Parma he wants to see, but after a 0-0 draw with Fiorentina, ‘results are the priority’ right now.

The Ducali had just 36 per cent possession on home turf this evening and managed at most one shot on target.

Fiorentina had more possession, but it was largely sterile with sideways passing, so made no genuine difference. The only real chances they created were from set plays,” Liverani told DAZN.

Fabio Liverani admits this is nowhere near the Parma he wants to see, but after a 0-0 draw with Fiorentina, ‘results are the priority’ right now.

The Ducali had just 36 per cent possession on home turf this evening and managed at most one shot on target.

“Fiorentina had more possession, but it was largely sterile with sideways passing, so made no genuine difference. The only real chances they created were from set plays,” Liverani told DAZN.

“I think the draw was the right result, the team is growing in its solidity and self-esteem, once we get more players into shape after returning from COVID, we can create more in attack.

“It’s difficult at the moment, as our options upfront aren’t in great shape, so once we have everyone at our disposal, we can try something different tactically and even change during the game.”

Liverani scrapped his 4-3-1-2 formation in favour of a 3-5-2 and is seemingly giving up on the plan to play out from the back, instead going back to the old-school Parma defend and counter approach.

“We changed system and we’re working on it. Playing a certain type of football out from the back can only be done with consistent training. This is a season where between the late start and COVID, we had three full training sessions together.

“Once we get a few positive results to build up that self-esteem, hopefully we can try something different. At this moment, results are the priority,” continued the former Lecce coach.

“There have always been six weeks of pre-season training in which you create a group and get to work consistently. This is a club that changed coach, director of sport and President in the space of a few weeks. We had eight players out simultaneously with COVID and did not postpone any games.

“What reassures me is that everyone here can be a regular starter and that is good to know. In four to six weeks, I will be glad to have problems choosing the line-up, as so many will be in good shape and deserve to play.

“The club knew the situation and gave me time to get this team working, so we’re still on track.”
