Lecce coach Fabio Liverani says Atalanta are a “great team” and was thankful to the fans for applauding his side at the end of the game.

The Giallorossi went into half time with the game level at 2-2, but Atalanta eventually took control of the game and put a further five goals past Liverani’s side, with the game ending 2-7.

“It becomes difficult to comment on a match that ends 7-2. We, especially with Atalanta and with a team of that technique, are not able to play like that,” said Liverani in his post-game press conference.

“We pay for the enormity of the result, every defeat is a regret, but for me the statistics aren’t important. It’s disappointing because you get the game back on track and then you end up with zero points.”

Despite the defeat, Liverani tipped his hat off to La Dea.

“You have to be objective, they have been on this road for many years and they have formed a great squad.

“It’s disappointing at times to see the resignation of the lads.”

Liverani believes having no alternatives in attack is hurting his side.

“It’s bad having no options in attack, also in terms of making changes in the course of a game. Gianluca Lapadula gave everything.

“Marco Mancosu is adapting to a new role….then we have Diego Farias, Filippo Falco and Khouma Babacar all out. We hope to get them back soon, above all for alternatives up front.”

There will be a league meeting between all 20 Serie A clubs in order to iron out the controversies surrounding rearranged games on Wednesday.

“In football, decisions should be made in the right times and ways. There are hierarchies; the government made a decision on Thursday and it must apply to all teams.

“The league acts as a guarantor for the 20 teams, not four or five. Once the dates are fixed, the rule requires that only the clubs can change those dates.

“It’s not clear and a peaceful way to play vital matches like this.”

Despite the conceding seven goals to Atalanta, the home side were applauded off the field by the Lecce fans.

“I think the people of Lecce understand this team, they have always supported us. The stadium and the Curva deserve applause, the fans are intelligent, they know that between this formation and Atalanta there is an abyss.”
