Former Italy CT Marcello Lippi is on the verge of a return to China, this time to coach the national team.

The 68-year-old, who won the World Cup with the Azzurri in 2006, was previously in charge of Guangzhou Evergrande between 2012 and 2014 where he won the Chinese League title three times, the Chinese Cup in 2011 and the Asia Champions League in 2012-13.

Reports suggested that he was ready to return to the Chinese Super League with Guangzhou, and according to Corriere dello Sport he had already agreed terms with the club.

However in a new turn of events, his former employers have given him the green light to join the national team, a deal that is only awaiting an official annoucement.
