Marcello Lippi praised Lazio coach Simone Inzaghi, while predicting Juventus "joined the small group of super-favourites" for the Champions League.

The World Cup winning coach looks ahead to tomorrow's Serie A match in Turin, which kicks off on Saturday at 19.45 GMT.

“Simone Inzaghi is a good, relatively young coach and he is doing very well. He will certainly be able to identify the weak points in Juve, even though I believe that there are few," Lippi told Rai Sport.

“In any case, Lazio are a team with excellent players, and are playing just fine.”

Lippi was asked about the Cristiano Ronaldo controversy at his old side, where he was substituted twice in a row by Maurizio Sarri.

“There is no issue here. I have managed many champions, they are intelligent people, they are the ones who are decisive for their team’s victories on and off the field, and Cristiano Ronaldo is one of them.

“Does anyone, including him, like to be replaced?"

Juventus haven’t won the Champions League since Lippi sat on the bench in 1996, so can they win it this season, and prioritise it at the expense of Serie A?

“Absolutely not. The best way to win is to win. You can’t plan, and give speeches like, 'this year we’re going to favour this competition and not the other.' You try to win everything.

“I am optimistic for Juventus this season, more so than in other years, because I think they’ve joined the small group of super-favourites.”

Lippi coached Juve in two separate spells, from 1994-1999 and 2001-04, winning five Scudetti and the Champions League in 1995-96.
