Uefa executive committee vice-President Giancarlo Abete says a decision on Marcello Lippi will be referred to the Federal Court.

The World Cup-winning Coach was expected to be Italy’s new technical director, working above Giampiero Ventura, but FIGC regulations have thrown a spanner in the works.

Lippi’s son, Davide, is an agent and represents several members of the squad, creating a potential conflict of interest.

“It’s a rule which stems from a decision by the Federation to resolve issues relating to agents, we’ve raised the white flag,” Abete told reporters outside the FIGC headquarters.

“The decision taken, which is to ask for an interpretation from the Federal Court is, I think, the correct one.

“We’re talking about a top position, but the technical director wouldn’t be in charge of the call-ups.”
