Marcello Lippi was involved in controversy today when he charged onto the pitch to angrily confront a referee.

The Guangzhou Evergrande boss was furious after seeing two of his players sent off during his side’s Asian Champions League defeat to Western Sydney Warriors.

Upon the second dismissal, that of Gao Lin, the Italian World Cup winning Coach lost his temper and ran onto the field of play to confront whistle-blower Mohammad Abdulla Hassan Mohamed.

He was eventually restrained by members of his backroom staff but was still visibly angry in his post-match Press conference.

“The first one I didn’t see very well but the second one was right in front of me and was not a red card,” Lippi argued.

“You know me from the World Cup and the Champions League, I am not like this, I am an educated man.

“I know I shouldn’t go on the pitch but I just wanted to ask him to explain his decision.”
