There is only one point separating these sides going into the weekend and both are coming off their first – very heavy – defeats of the season.

Roma were crushed 4-0 by Napoli and Sassuolo lost the showdown with Inter 3-0 on home turf.

Chris Smalling, Jordan Veretout, Davide Santon and Gianluca Mancini are still out of action for Roma, but Dzeko is slowly rediscovering his form after COVID.

He is supported by on-form Mkhitaryan and Pedro Rodriguez, while Bryan Cristante again fills in at centre-back, but is joined by returning Marash Kumbulla.

Sassuolo are starting to really miss injured forwards Francesco Caputo and Gregoire Defrel, but the situation is deteriorating for coach Roberto De Zerbi.

Goalkeeper Andrea Consigli misses out with a stomach bug and is replaced by Gianluca Pegolo, while Vlad Chiriches and Filippo Romagna are also injured.

De Zerbi therefore shakes things up a bit, introducing Pedro Obiang in midfield, moving Maxime Lopez to a more advanced role and Filip Djuricic chosen as the centre-forward.

Roma: Mirante; Ibanez, Cristante, Kumbulla; Karsdorp, Villar, Pellegrini, Spinazzola; Pedro, Mkhitaryan; Dzeko

Sassuolo: Pegolo; Ayhan, Marlon, Ferrari, Rogerio; Locatelli, Obiang; Berardi, Lopez, Boga; Djuricic
