The Partenopei have stuttered since Arkadiusz Milik’s injury, as Gabbiadini failed to make an impact as a centre-forward.

He was often dropped recently in favour of Dries Mertens as a False 9, but that isn’t an option this evening due to the Belgian’s ban, so Gabbiadini has to step up.

Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon back him up with Marek Hamsik and the increasingly solid young midfielder Amadou Diawara.

Raul Albiol is available again in the centre of defence with Kalidou Koulibaly, while Albania international Elseid Hysaj shook off an injury to start.

Inter have been revitalised with the arrival of Coach Stefano Pioli and are fresh from a 4-2 thriller against Fiorentina. However, they were 3-0 up within 19 minutes and risked throwing it all away with the 10-man Viola until a last-gasp Icardi counter to seal it.

Gary Medel and Davide Santon are still on the treatment table, while Ever Banega is chosen with Antonio Candreva and Ivan Perisic to support Icardi, leaving Joao Mario on the bench once more.

Andrea Ranocchia is again picked to start at centre-back rather than Jeison Murillo.

The Nerazzurri haven’t conquered the San Paolo in Serie A since another 2-0 result in October 1997, managing only three draws and seven defeats.
