Gigi Buffon has warned his Juventus side that the Scudetto is still not won – despite their nine-point lead at the top of the table.

“Now we need to stay alert because the last time we increased our advantage in the standings, we slipped up the following Sunday,” the goalkeeper noted.

The Old Lady extended their Serie A leadership thanks to an injury-time goal from Emanuele Giaccherini against Catania on the same afternoon as Napoli lost 2-0 at Chievo Verona.

“Given that Catania’s attackers are very dangerous, it was important not to concede a goal, because 0-0 would still have taken us seven points clear of Napoli,” he added.

“Also, if you don’t concede, something can always happen at the death. We tried and believed right until the end and managed to get the victory.

“The great thing about us is that the group is made up of charismatic people, who can dig us out of a hole at any moment.

“Giaccherini also deserves to have had a day like that,” the captain added of the injury-time hero. “He always gives his maximum in training.”

Juventus will play Bologna next weekend.
