While Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano D'Agostino suggested “people should play for their own countries,” some in the stands for Wednesday's game went too far.

They hurled racist abuse at Mario Balotelli and held up banners that declared: ‘Italy is for Italians.'

“I don't care in the slightest about the racist banner towards me and Balotelli,” replied Ledesma.

“I was, however, disappointed by the jeers. We heard those on the pitch.”
