Fabio Liverani has claimed Lecce have a “desire to do something extraordinary” when they return from the break against Udinese.

The home team are without a win since November and sit one point above the relegation zone in Serie A, but the coach said his players “seem stronger” after more than two weeks off.

“I came back from the break to find a group that looks well,” Liverani said at a press conference. “The lads look more relaxed mentally, they seem stronger and have a great desire to go again.”

Udinese are 14th in the League – three points and two places above the Giallorossi – and the visitors ended the year with a 2-1 win against Cagliari. Liverani expects another “tough” battle at the Via del Mare.

“We will face a tough side with expertise and physical players. Udinese have guys with legs up front and on the flanks,” he added. “There’s a will to get going again and a desire to do something extraordinary.

“We have to start with the battle against Udinese. I must take into account the characteristics to give the team the required balance.”
