Newly-promoted Lecce are close to signing Besiktas and Turkey striker Burak Yilmaz, according to Sportitalia.

Alfredo Pedulla, who first broke the news of Lecce’s interest in Burak, claims Salentini officials will travel to Turkey on Monday to close a deal and are ‘confident’ of doing so.

Despite turning 34 next month, the hitman remains one of Turkish football’s most prolific goalscorers.

Despite turning 34 next month, the hitman remains one of Turkish football’s most prolific goalscorers.

He netted 16 times in just 22 games for Besiktas in the second half of last season, while he has the unique distinction of playing for Turkey’s traditional ‘big three’ – his current club, Galatasaray and Fenerbahce.

The former Lazio target is also impressive at international level, with 24 goals in 56 caps for his country.
