The 25-year-old has enjoyed a highly-impressive season for Simone Inzaghi’s team, contributing seven goals and nine assists across 26 appearances in all competitions.

According to Il Messaggero, the Spaniard’s agent is due to arrive in Rome in the coming days to hold negotiations with Stadio Olimpico President Claudio Lotito.

The Italian daily claims that Lotito is ready to reward the attacking midfielder’s fine displays with a significant pay-rise and a contract that runs until 2023.

The former Liverpool man began his career with Sevilla before securing a move to Anfield.

However, he struggled in England and had loan spells at Malaga and Deportivo la Coruña prior to his move to Serie A.
