Claudio Lotito has hit out at transfer speculation and insisted he is preparing a Lazio squad to fight for Champions League qualification next season.

The Aquile, who sold Hernanes to Inter in January, are without European football for next year and speculated as in a battle to try and keep hold of the likes of Antonio Candreva.

For their President, however, such talk is not reflective of intentions at the club this summer.

“In recent weeks, as has become customary with regards to Lazio, there has been a genuine shot from the media at many players registered with the club,” Lotito has written in a note posted on Lazio’s official website.

“It is a perverse mechanism where those on the inside, such as myself, have gotten used to it, but I understand the fear of the fans that every day we are confronted with sports coverage on the front pages where a face of a champion is associated with various hypotheses of a sale.

“Well, it is in my interest to maintain for the new season a squad that is highly competitive, which will launch the re-conquest of Europe with determination and fight for a place in the Champions League.

“A team as historical as Lazio deserves historical results, such as that achieved in the Coppa Italia Final of May 26, 2013.

“The club has a management team that knows perfectly the values to add to the squad and operates exclusively for the enhancement and improvement of the competitiveness of the team.

“And at this point, given the sharing of objectives and philosophy of intervention, we chose the new Coach Stefano Pioli.

“I can assure the fans that what will come will be a year of change.”
