Lazio tried to launch a last-minute move for Mason Greenwood but failed to finalise the Manchester United outcast’s transfer before the market closed, Sky Sport Italia report.

The Biancocelesti emerged as surprise suitors for the 21-year-old in the final days of the summer transfer window, interested in signing the Englishman on a bargain deal as the Red Devils push him out the door.

Greenwood was open to the move to Lazio, who had prepared a contract understood to be worth around €700,000, but the club seemingly decided against a deal before again making a U-turn in the final hour of the transfer window.

As reported by Sky Sport Italia journalist Manuele Baiocchini via Di Marzio, Lazio president Claudio Lotito confirmed that Lazio won’t sign Greenwood after running out of time to complete the deal for the Manchester United outcast.

The 21-year-old could still technically join on a free transfer in the coming days, but that would depend on the Red Devils agreeing to terminate his contract.
