Lazio will meet Genk on Monday to resume talks for Sergej Milinkovic-Savic after his transfer to Fiorentina collapsed.

The 20-year-old midfielder had flown in to Florence to sign the contract on Saturday, but that meeting proved disastrous.

“He was clearly hesitant and we cannot wait around forever,” explained director of sport Daniele Pradè.

“We do not need to convince or beg anyone to come here. We want players with fire in their bellies. If he wasn’t convinced, then it’s best he goes elsewhere.”

Lazio had agreed terms with Milinkovic-Savic before the Viola, but the Tuscans struck a deal with Genk.

Now that Fiorentina have pulled out definitively, the coast is clear for the Aquile to swoop.

Sky Sport Italia suggest they will wait until tomorrow before approaching Genk to resume negotiations and work out a transfer fee.
