Lazio spokesperson Arturo Diaconale has hit out at Massimo Cellino, accusing the Brescia owner of “the pot calling the kettle black”.

Cellino recently claimed the Scudetto should be given to Lazio over their insistence on resuming training early, despite the outbreak of coronavirus killing almost 5,000 people in Italy.

“I’ve been heavily attacked by other fans because I defend Lazio, which is absolutely legitimate for someone who cares about the colours of their team,” Diaconale responded to Radio Punto Nuovo.

“Being a fan doesn’t mean losing the light of reason, but rather that the campaign must be concluded without the risk of further disasters.

“It’s logical that, in this situation, everyone pursues their own interests. Everyone should take care of themselves and be responsible for what they do and say.

“There’s an old saying that goes, ‘the pot calling the kettle black.’ At times like these, it’s better to avoid making statements that can create further controversy and instead look after general interests.”
