“But, forged from my passion, from the pats on my shoulders, the kids wearing my No 14 shirt, from those who loved and supported me, I look at Rome from above and I see history, the Primavera Scudetto, my first goals, the applause and criticism, that double, applause and criticism, the dressing room made up of teammates and professionals who helped me.
“But above all, you the fans. Thanks to all those who taught me, were patient with me and raised me.
“I’m not just talking about football but also real life. I came to Rome when I was a baby, a little boy and a dreamer. You all accompanied me until the moment of my departure.
“I don’t want to be hypocritical. I’ve gone, I wanted to leave and I couldn’t stay anymore and you all know why.
“There’s no denying that that I could, along with my agent, have chosen other ways to leave, but instead I opted for the best choice, which brings benefits to both clubs and therefore to you.
“That’s why I dedicate my last thought to you: fans and teammates. Thank you! For me, you are Lazio. A feeling without bosses, flying in the sky. A feeling of freedom, not being locked up.”
