Reports this week have suggested that the Napoli captain failed to report an incident of alleged match-fixing involving former goalkeeper Matteo Gianello in a game between the Partenopei and Sampdoria” data-scaytid=”5″>Sampdoria in 2010.
But the 31-year-old's representative has criticised football's governing body in Italy [FIGC] for proposing that the veteran defender could be sidelined for six months and Napoli be docked two points.
“The sporting laws of today are not adequate,” he told Radio Kiss Kiss. “Football has large economic interest and to dock Napoli two points in the standings could have a major impact.
“Too much importance has been given to the words of Gianello. The real culprit in this matter, however, should be sanctioned economically.”
