Paris Saint-Germain Ezequiel Lavezzi has revealed that he decided to join the French side ‘out of respect’ for Napoli.

The Argentina international left the Partenopei in the summer of 2012 after a five-year career at Stadio San Paolo.

And the attacker has admitted that he turned down the opportunity to stay in Italy because he didn’t want to disrespect Aurelio Del Laurentiis’ outfit.

“PSG have grown a lot in recent seasons,” he told Fox Sports. “Here, now, there are a lot of players that are at their highest level.

“I would also say that the quality of play is higher here.

“Coming here after the experience of Napoli was a good choice for me.

“Other Italian clubs were interested in me, however, out of respect for the fans I chose to go abroad and not stay in Italy.”
