Lautaro Martinez feels he isn’t getting much playing time for Inter “due to the tactical system,” but broke his Argentina duck tonight.

The 21-year-old hitman scored his first senior goal for Argentina in this evening’s 4-0 friendly victory over Iraq, with teammate Mauro Icardi watching on from the stands in Riyadh.

“Obviously, it is positive and important to score, as it was my first start, but I must continue working to improve,” he told reporters.

“I was left out of the last few games due to an injury, so that was a decision made along with the medical staff of the national team and Inter. Now I’m raring to go and everyone knows the next match with Brazil is special, even if it’s a friendly.”

Lautaro has found the net in Serie A too for Inter, but got just 172 minutes of football spread out over four games.

“For now, I am not playing much at Inter due to the tactical system we are using and the Coach tries to maintain a stable shape. I continue to work hard, try to do my best and improve so that I am ready when and where I am called upon.

“I had a chat with (Coach Lionel) Scaloni on international duty and we’ll see if he decides to play with one or two strikers.”
