Inter hitman Lautaro Martinez broke his drought at Camp Nou against Barcelona, admitting ‘the goal arrives when you least expect it.’

The striker had failed to find the net since August 30 against Cremonese, firing blanks in eight consecutive matches, while he was still looking for his first Champions League goal of the season.

He broke that drought in style with a goal that put his men 2-1 up at Camp Nou after Ousmane Dembele’s opener was cancelled out by Nicolò Barella.

“The goal arrives when you least expect it. I try to always help out the team anyway,” Toro told Sky Sport Italia.

It was Lautaro Martinez’s second goal at Camp Nou, after August 2019, and he provided the assist for Robin Gosens too.

“There are many strong emotions, we faced a great team on their own pitch in front of I don’t know how many fans…”

The Nerazzurri have transformed their campaign after a disastrous start to the season, especially in Serie A.

“We talked things over between us, understood the difficulties and put what we needed to onto the pitch. I hope Inter are back, we want to give our all for this team, suffer together starting from the strikers all the way back, working together. It was a great match.”

The final result was 3-3, meaning Inter only need a win over Viktoria Plzen at San Siro to guarantee qualification into the Round of 16.

“I am glad Robin got to score a goal, as he works hard for the team and is an important figure in the locker room.”
