Atalanta goalkeeper Andrea Consigli has undergone laser eye surgery to combat a ‘slow and steady deterioration’ of his eyesight.

The 27-year-old underwent the procedure this week to improve his vision, having increasingly struggled over the previous two years with astigmatism and myopia.

Whilst apparently not having an affect on his performances, the conditions will have resulted in increased difficulty to focus on objects, particularly in low light, rain, fog or in games played at night under artificial lighting.

Consigli’s eyesight is rated as having improved since undergoing the procedure this week, which will keep him out of Atalanta’s closing League fixture of the season against Catania.

Part of the goalkeeper’s recovery will include a program called ‘Visual Training’ to train how to improve his reaction times with his improved eyes.
