The Nerazzurri’s results since the return of Roberto Mancini have not shown the improvement, with the latest a 2-1 defeat to Udinese on Sunday evening.

With just the one point from three League games, the Coach commented that he was ‘absolutely livid’ after the Week 14 result.

“I agree with the Coach,” Kovacic told Sky Sports, echoing the bitter sentiment. “In the first half we made too many mistakes, myself included.

“We came into the game well, then I don't know what happened to us.

“We have to work harder and I don't understand what's happening.”

Asked about Mancini, the Croatian midfielder seemed reluctant to pin the blame.

“I don't think a Coach can change everything in two weeks, we are not a great team and we must know that, we are in trouble.

“Now we've got Qarabag and Chievo and we must think about them.

“Maybe we had a different idea at the beginning of the season, we are a good team but we could give more and listen to the Coach.”

Kovacic has been discussed as an option for a variety of positions within Mancini's Inter.

“Tactically I think everybody sees me in one way, I'm feeling fine on the left or as a second striker.

“I should improve further because it's been a while since I last covered that position, but I've got to play well wherever the Coach places me.

“We've got to give Mancini time to work and time to ourselves to improve, hoping the next games go better.

“The Italian League is hard, we knew that every game is hard and now we're not a team worthy of the first three places.”

Inter are currently sitting 12th in the standings, nine points away from the third place.
