Mateo Kovacic has claimed that he has a good relationship with Coach Walter Mazzarri, and is focused on staying at Inter.

The youngster has been in-and-out of the Nerazzurri XI this season, coming off the bench 18 times in 28 appearances.

But having recently reclaimed a starting place, the Croatian playmaker has insisted that he has learned a lot from the tactician.

“Problems with the Coach? No, definitely not,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “It’s obvious that when you’re on the bench you are not happy.

“But the Coach wanted me to work on not being so fixed in my position. In Croatia, I wasn’t taught that type of thing.

“But Mazzarri has been talking to me, asking me to do certain things.

“Now that I have the shirt though, I don’t want to give it up.”

Kovacic then commented on Inter’s inconsistent campaign, and the upcoming match with Napoli.

“It’s not easy to understand why we haven’t played so well at home – I think there are a number of factors.

“Maybe we feel less pressure away, and on some occasions we’ve been very unlucky at San Siro.

“But against Napoli we have to be at our very best from the start, otherwise they can hurt you.

“They have a very strong team, but maybe their defence can be taken advantage of a bit. And I think we’ve proven ourselves against big teams.”

The 19-year-old concluded by remarking on his future, with reports that Borussia Dortmund would be keen on his signature.

“I’m fine here, I’m happy. All I’m thinking about are the last four games and then the World Cup.”
