Former Juventus stopper Jurgen Kohler is backing Borussia Dortmund to upset Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals.

The German, who won the European Cup for Borussia in 1997 after beating Juve in the Final, has confidence in the Bundesliga outfit.

“Dortmund have already proven this season that they can beat Real Madrid,” Kohler said to DPA after the teams initially faced off in the group stages in late 2012.

“Real Madrid have a very powerful front-line,” the 47-year-old continued. “Their weakness, though, is in defence.

“And it is so that Dortmund are strongest in attack. I believe that they have a very good chance to win in the semi-final.

“Madrid are one of the three biggest teams in the world, alongside Barcelona and Bayern Munich. And it’s always something special to play against a team of this standing.”

The Germans play host to Real in the first leg on Wednesday.
