"I'll look to give my best in this great place for this great team which consists of some very strong players."

Villarreal were also keen on the former Werder Bremen ace, but the Biancocelesti worked hard to net the striker.

"He's a great signing for us," said Lazio sporting director Igli Tare, a former teammate of Klose when they were at Kaiserslautern.

"The negotiations went on for some time. We were tracking him for ages not only because of his ability, but also because of his image.

"His international experience will be fundamental for us. He was a point of reference for Bayern Munich and still is one for Germany.

"To those who claim he is old, time will prove that this was the right choice. I'm sure that he will sweat for 90 minutes to honour this club."
