Juventus striker Moise Kean made his Italy comeback and thanks Luciano Spalletti for putting faith in him after some negative experiences. ‘I understood my mistakes, now it’s up to me to prove I can be counted on.’
The 23-year-old was in the starting XI for the side that beat Malta 4-0 at the Stadio San Nicola in Bari last night, so is also eager to keep that spot going into the crucial EURO 2024 qualifier in England on Tuesday evening.
It was his return to the Azzurri after a two-year absence, during which he pulled out of last season’s Under-21 European Championship for reasons that remain mysterious.
Spalletti visited the Juve training ground last month to talk with coach Max Allegri and among the things they discussed was Kean’s development.
“The coach took a big step towards me, he really helped me understand how I should be moving on the pitch. Now it’s up to me to repay that faith,” Kean told RAI Sport.
While Allegri is best known for his more defensive approach, Kean is enjoying the way Spalletti sets his Italy side out.
“We play a very attacking football with Spalletti, which I really like. Against Malta, he asked me to attack the space and see a lot of the ball. I feel my teammates have faith in me and it’s a really good squad.”
With striker options always the most limited area for Italy selection, Kean is hoping to earn himself a place in the squad for the EURO 2024 tournament next summer.
He is eager to put the past indiscretions behind him, including a very poor disciplinary record and an attitude that was not always professional.
“When you are young, you make mistakes. I understood my mistakes, now it’s up to me to prove on and off the field that I can be counted on. When the coach calls, I will make sure I am ready.”
Let’s hope so..
Ciao,
Keep M.Kean in the team, put Balotelli upfront with him
He is 23 years old. What young person doesn’t make mistakes? He has recognised that and will be better for it. And a better player too.
