The Greek international joined the Partenopei from Udinese in the summer, along with Meret, and they’re both competing with David Ospina for a starting shirt.

“Coming here was a great honour and an enormous satisfaction,” Karnezis said on Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli.

“Napoli is a great team and I couldn’t wait to start training. I’ll never forget the match against Paris Saint-Germain, although there’s still that bit of regret.

“We could have done something more after that great second half but we faced a real top team and even a draw is an important result.

“It’s a dream and an objective to get through the group, we’ve faced important teams with big budgets, like Liverpool who were in the final last year.

“It’s not an easy group, but we’ll do everything to go through.”

Meret broke his arm in his first training session, leading the Partenopei to sign Ospina on loan from Arsenal.

“He has great talent and potential, with all the physical and technical gifts to have a great career. He was unlucky, but he’ll be back as soon as possible to prove his quality.

“It’s a good sign for the squad to have three goalkeepers. We’re all ready to help: there are two experienced goalkeepers in me and Ospina, then a great talent like Meret.

“Anyone who plays can do well.”
