Yann Karamoh relished “the most important goal of my career” after Inter beat Bologna 2-1 at San Siro with his stunning solo strike.

The 19-year-old got his first Serie A start, a surprising pick in the trident attack rather than Antonio Candreva, and Luciano Spalletti’s gamble certainly paid off.

“This is the most important goal of my career,” Karamoh told Sky Sport Italia.

“It’s my first goal in Italy, it arrived during a delicate time for the team and I hadn’t played for a while. I hope to play all the time, like everyone does, but obviously the Coach makes his choices.”

When did Karamoh find out he was in the starting XI?

“Spalletti didn’t particularly say much to me before the game, but he told me to warm up and that my pace would be helpful. He also asked that I play for my teammates.

“It was a surprise to be in the starting line-up, but I think with improved training and hard work, it’s a natural step.”

The 19-year-old also showed remarkable maturity when asked about Marcelo Brozovic sarcastically applauding the fans who jeered him.

“It’s a complicated situation for him, caused by the results we’ve had lately. However, we mustn’t look for excuses. It’s not the fault of the fans if we don’t win games, it’s our fault for the performances we put on to the field.”
